Looking to spend less at the gas station? Believe in being easier on the environment? Maybe a mixture of both? If so, you'll love a model from the Toyota Prius Family and here at One Toyota of Oakland we have plenty to choose from!

The Toyota Prius is the original hybrid for the masses. And while some vehicles that have been on the road for a long time start to rest on their laurels and newer models take their place, that isn't the case with the Toyota Prius, as it still has some of the best hybrid fuel ratings around!

Today, we're going to look at the model lineup which includes the Toyota Prius, the Toyota Prius c, and the Toyota Prius Prime.  For each one, we'll dive into the fuel ratings and amenities you'll love having onboard. Afterward, we encourage you to stop into our Oakland dealership to check out our selection and go on a test drive. We're conveniently located to serve shoppers from busy San Francisco and look forward to meeting you!

The Toyota Prius

If you like classic anything then you'll love the original: the Toyota Prius. It still sports a futuristic vibe, but a redesign a few years back helped it achieve a more refined look that's ready to arrive at a swanky San Francisco event.

The Prius is available in several trims - ONE, TWO/TWO Eco, THREE, THREE Touring, FOUR, and FOUR Touring - and all have a 1.8L Hybrid Synergy Drive engine. If you're in the city you can get up to an EPA-estimated 54 mpg in the city and 50 mpg when you're on the highway! If you get the TWO Eco trim, you get a lighter lithium-ion hybrid battery and that helps take the fuel ratings up to 58 city/53 highway. If you're someone who drives a lot, the difference can be really add up.

Highlights you can find amongst the trims include a touchscreen, Bi-LED or LED lights, Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P) advanced safety technologies, a wireless charging pad for your smartphone, and heated SofTex seats.

The Toyota Prius c

It's never too early to get acquainted with the Prius lineup, so if you're a parent looking to buy a hybrid for a child going off to college, a young professional, or someone who likes nimble vehicles, you'll love the Toyota Prius c - and yes, the 'c' stands for compact. For size comparison, the standard Prius comes in at 178-inches long, and the Prius c is notably shorter at 162-inches; you won't have any trouble parallel parking this model!

The Prius c has a 1.5L ECVT Hybrid engine with EV/ECO Modes. If you're in the city you can get up to an EPA-estimated 48 city mpg or 43 mpg on the highway. Not as much as the Prius, but still very impressive, especially when you consider the attractive costs for owning or leasing. Standard highlights for the Prius c include a 6.1-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, LED lights, and rearview camera. There are four trims to choose from (ONE, TWO, THREE, and FOUR) and all come with the Toyota Safety Sense C (TSS-C) package. It's a modified version of TSS-P and it includes a pre-collision system, lane departure alert, and automatic high beams.

The Toyota Prius Prime

The Prius Prime has the same 1.8L Hybrid Synergy Engine as the Prius and an EPA-estimated 55 mpg in the city and 53 mpg on the highway. The model takes things up a notch by adding on a plug-in component. So not only do you get hybrid, fuel-saving technology, but you also get a bit of all-electric power and an EV range of 25 miles. With a standard plug you can fuel up to 5.5 hours and if you're at a public 240v charging center it takes about 2 hours and 10 minutes.

Compared to all-electric models the range isn't huge, but it's useful if you have a short-distance commute or are just going a few blocks to see a friend or grab groceries. And, since it's still a hybrid, you won't get stranded since the hybrid system will kick in once the electric battery is depleted. This makes the Prius Prime a more realistic vehicle for most people to own, especially if you are traveling to a part of the country that doesn't have a bounty of charging stations like here in California.

Additionally, you get a whopping 133 estimated MPGe and a huge estimated driving range of 640 miles. To put it into perspective, California is 840 miles long, so you can go a significant distance on one EV charge and fuel fill-up.

Highlights for the Prius Prime include a carbon-fiber reinforced rear hatch, premium JBL speakers, TSS-P, and a heads-up display. You can choose from either the Plus, Premium, or Advanced trims.

No matter which Prius model you choose, you're sure to drive away with excellent EPA ratings that help you save at the pump. To see which one is the right fit for your lifestyle, stop in and visit our dealership this week! We have several Prius and Prius Prime and a handful of smaller Prius c options to check out!
